The Olympic Giant or Korean Giant pear is a late-season variety known for its exceptionally large size (often weighing a pound or more, sometimes reaching the size of a grapefruit), crisp, juicy texture, and sweet flavor. It ripens in October and stores exceptionally well, with some varieties lasting up to five months.
Generally not self-fertile or only partially self-fertile. While it may set some fruit on its own, it requires a different variety nearby for cross-pollination to ensure a heavy, high-quality crop with the largest fruit size.
The best pollinators are any other Asian pear variety or certain European pear varieties that bloom at the same time. Pollinator options include Shinko, Hosui, Chojuro, Shinseiki, Bartlett, Anjou, Orient, and Kiefer.
