A spectacular, compact native understory tree that earns its name with an explosion of color. Before the leaves emerge in early spring, the branches are swathed in a vibrant display of deep, rosy-pink blooms. As the flowers fade, heart-shaped leaves erupt in a fiery, multi-colored mix of burgundy, tangerine, red, and gold simultaneously, eventually maturing to a deep green-burgundy. Highly adaptable to clay soils, it makes a stunning, low-maintenance focal point for smaller residential yards.
